Coast Day, the annual celebration of marine resources organized by Delaware Sea Grant, is the single largest public education event hosted by the University of Delaware.

The University of Delaware Sea Grant College Program has an ocean of information to share with you! Our outreach team — the Marine Advisory Service and the Marine Public Education Office — work together to relay research-based information to the public on a variety of topics.

The Marine Advisory Service (MAS) helps foster the wise use, conservation, and development of coastal resources by acting as a conduit between university researchers and audiences ranging from resource managers to coastal business owners. The MAS assists these groups in solving problems and addressing new opportunities by providing timely, objective information and techniques through workshops, one-to-one consultations, publications, videos, Web sites, and other media. Based at the UD College of Marine and Earth Studies in Lewes, the MAS staff includes specialists in marine education, marine recreation and tourism, marine resource management, seafood technology, aquaculture and water quality, and coastal processes.

The Marine Public Education Office (MPEO) provides people of all ages with easy-to-understand, research-based information on marine and coastal discoveries, issues, resources, and phenomena. The staff translates complex scientific information into award-winning publications, Web sites and on-line expeditions, radio announcements, videos, exhibits, and other outreach materials. The MPEO also works closely with the media, state and national agencies, and other Sea Grant programs to extend marine information to the public. Based at the UD College of Marine and Earth Studies on the Newark campus, the office includes a director, production manager, science writer, art director, and administrative assistant. The MPEO staff also provides communications and outreach expertise to the University of Delaware College of Marine and Earth Studies.
