Marine Operations

The Marine Operations Building and harbor located in Lewes, Delaware.

The Marine Operations Building and harbor located in Lewes, Delaware.

Marine Operations is located on the harbor in the Adrian S. Hooper Building at the College of Marine and Earth Studies' Lewes campus. The facility is named in honor of Adrian S. Hooper, chief executive officer of a major shipping firm who was an adviser and benefactor of the college. Mr. Hooper served as the first president of the Marine Associates, a non-profit corporation whose chartered purpose is to assist the college in developing one of the nation's leading marine programs.

The Marine Operations team supports the sea-going research activities of CMES. The R/V Hugh R. Sharp and the Small Boat Fleet are both based at the harbor facility in Lewes. The Marine Operations team also administers the Scientific Diving Program, the Oceanographic Instrument Pool and the UNOLS East Coast Van Pool. The Marine Operations facility is also home to the M/V DEL RIVER, an oil spill recovery vessel which serves the Delaware Bay.
