Congratulations! Dr. Cary and the staff of Extreme 2003 would like to thank all of you who submitted entries to our Virtual Science Fair. Dr. Cary had an extremely difficult time selecting the most outstanding entries due to the originality and creativeness of all of the projects. Below you will find the list of winners in the "Vent Art" and "Vent Science" categories. We hope your participation in the program has been a positive educational experience, and we look forward to welcoming you aboard for Extreme 2004 in December!

Middle School

1. Bayou View Middle School, Gulfport, Mississippi - 6th Grade (Best Overall)
Fantastic work on the project, guys - very informative research. I hope you learned a lot about adaptation and the deep sea. The artwork was amazing - maybe we could use one of your drawings for our next expedition T-shirt!

2. Sequoyah Middle School, Doraville, Georgia (Best Individual Entry)
Great work, Eric - amazing drawings. I think you are well on your way to becoming a scientific illustrator. This type of drawing is so needed but has not attracted the talent we need - keep up the great work.

3. International Tashkent School, Tashkent, Uzbekistan (Best Computer Work, Second Place) Great Powerpoint presentations, guys. The arrangements and artwork were terrific.

4. Avon Grove Intermediate School Pennsylvania (Honorable Mention)
Fantastic creatures guys!! I was sure that I had seen some of those during a dive. Thanks for participating in the program and for taking the time to enter the Virtual Science Fair.

5. Maimonides Academy, Los Angeles, California (Honorable Mention)
Great work all of you. Your mural was one of the most detailed and exciting I reviewed this year. Congratulations on a job well done.

6. Frederick School, Grayslake, Illinois (Honorable Mention)
Absolutely amazing work! Very cool stuff. I loved the flip books and so did everyone in the laboratory.

7. St. Brendan Parish School, Bothell, Washington (Honorable Mention)
Great clay dioramas
these were the only ones of their kind this year. One of first deep-sea instruments I ever used was the JIM suit so your project brought back many memories!

1. Harry Van Arsdale High School, Brooklyn, New York (First Place)
Terrific range of projects and some very inventive experiments. It is obvious from the results that we have some budding scientists at Harry Van Arsdale.

2. Memorial High School, Eau Clair, Wisconsin (Best Powerpoint Second Place)
An amazing Powerpoint
when I went through it, it was like I was reliving the cruise again. It also reminded me of some things I have to do - thanks.
