Check out these photos, which have been transmitted to the University of Delaware from the R/V Atlantis.

BWI Airport
The view from the hangar at Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI). Nice sunrise, but boy, it was too early!

BWI Airport
Jen Costanza (right) and Liz McCliment from the University of Delaware College of Marine Studies wait around to board the flight. They will fly from Baltimore to Houston, and from Houston to San Diego.

BWI Airport
The next three photos are aerial views from the plane. We think this is Arizona.

BWI Airport
More aerial views from the plane: we think this is New Mexico.

BWI Airport
A last aerial view from the plane. We think this is southern California.

While we wait for our ride from the San Diego airport to the R/V Atlantis, Hepsi starts to document the trip via digital camera.

BWI Airport
More members of the UD Extreme team (with their gear) — Kevin Fielman (middle), Jay Wheeler, and Liz McCliment — are glad to see sunshine in southern California. They were even happier not to have to lug ALL their stuff by hand!

BWI Airport
Liz wonders where our ride is.

The gang patiently waits for their ride to the ship.

BWI Airport
Piles of luggage and equipment served as impromptu beds in front of baggage claim in San Diego.

The University of Delaware team is now on board the 274-foot R/V Atlantis. This is the stairway that the folks going down in Alvin use to get into the submersible.

BWI Airport
Here's a peek at Alvin in its hangar. In a few days, the sub will be busy taking us diving.

BWI Airport
The only safe place to be when scientists are unpacking is out of the way. We've never seen so much happen in such a short time! The University of Delaware group was the last to arrive, so many people were willing to help out.

BWI Airport
All of the luggage and equipment for the cruise was piled into the main science lab. Here everyone is trying to sort it all out and decide where to put everything. It’s a big ship, but space is valuable!

BWI Airport
The process of sorting and unpacking is pretty slow when everyone is this fatigued from long flights.

BWI Airport
This is the cabin that will be shared by education coordinators Jen Costanza and Hepsi Zsoldos and scientist Bekki Helton. Here is a view of their cabin from the door. It comes complete with three bunks, lockers, a sink, a desk and a chair, and an armchair. That long list makes it sound big, but Jen says space is definitely used efficiently!

BWI Airport
Hepsi grabs a few extra winks of sleep. The curtains keep your sleeping space nice and dark and (mostly) private.

BWI Airport
This is another view of the A-frame aboard R/V Atlantis including the tracks that Alvin is rolled down. Alvin gets rolled down these tracks that extend from the hangar to the A-frame.

BWI Airport
This is the A-frame that is used to deploy and retrieve Alvin from the sea.

BWI Airport
This is a view of the part of the A-frame that is not functioning properly.

BWI Airport
This is a close-up of the part of the A-frame that is being repaired. Hopefully, it will get fixed so we can depart on Monday morning as scheduled!

BWI Airport
Hepsi digs in to an egg and cheese sandwich at breakfast. Jet lag makes her really hungry!
