The
evening was capped off by a cook-out on the stern. It had rained so hard
all day that we had to cook the food in the kitchen, but we were able
to bring it out to the stern to eat. It was a great evening — the
stars came out for a while and we shared cruise memories at sunset with
new and old friends. I'm glad we still have a day to hang out with everyone.
New
friends, old friends, new science, new adventures, new discoveries, and
new ways of looking at things. That's what makes science so great! You
never know what you're going to find. It might appear that we've had nothing
but fun on this cruise, and it has been fun, but it's hard, hard work.
Not a lot of sleep, lots of late nights in the lab, worries about getting
the samples you need, weather delays, losing equipment, and wondering
if you'll get enough information to help out your career. We're all normal
people working hard to get answers to questions that intrigue us. Everyone
here has worked hard to get to this level, but they've been patient and
persevered, and it's paid off.
These
photos were brought to you by new life-long friends Jen, Hepsi, and Bekki!
