What is your job on the ship? Chief Mate

How long have you worked on Atlantis? Four months — I am doing this part-time because I am interested in the ship and her mission.

Where are you from? Centerville (Cape Cod), Massachusetts.

What is the most unusual thing you have seen on a cruise? With almost 40 years at sea, nothing seems too unusual anymore.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten? Home cooking

What is the scariest thing that has ever happened to you? My first Halloween

If you didn’t have this job, what would be your next job of choice? I have done many things, ship captain, college professor, port captain, Naval officer, and many other interesting jobs. I am always looking for new challenges and adventures, and who knows where they will lead me!

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever had to endure? Being away from my children when they were growing up. The sea takes an awful lot of their quality time away from them. While I can't make that time up, I do spend an awful lot of time with my four beautiful granddaughters, Megan, Miranda, Britanny, and Molly. I guess the time I lost with their parents, I try to regain with my grandkids. I love them.

Where’s the coolest place you have ever been? Why? I was a pilot in Valdez, Alaska, for many years. The winters up there are cold, dark, and damp. The summers are beautiful with daylight 24 hours a day, so you get the best and the worst of things up there.
